It’s finally April! I am done with the play that I was involved with. I also started another year of work this week. And, as they announced on Monday, we are going to welcome the new era of Reiwa (令和) very soon.
I am still catching up on some R&R as my weekend was spent with the play, which was fun but took a lot of energy. I was so tired and sore on Monday. I will try to recover by this weekend. I still have a lot of things to write about. I am soooo behind on my Eurovision series.
For this Battle of the Songs, I decided to do a battle centered around a song that I wanted to see enter the arena for a while. I was thinking about doing a “fools” theme as Monday was April’s Fool. But, it’s kind of too late.
Don’t be sad! This battle is so excited!
Before We Begin…
This battle features a song done in two ways: one in a glam metal style and one done in a dance-pop style. Which one you like better? Let me know in the comments below!
(This battle is dedicated to The Party/MMC fans on Twitter. I was inspired by your responses!)
Dokken – In My Dreams (1985)
Dokken originally released their album Under Lock and Key in the last quarter of 1985, which the song “In My Dreams” came from. This song is a typical mid-80s glam metal that has a slower tempo than typical glam metal songs from that era.
I never heard of Dokken until a couple of years ago. My parents hated glam or hair metal, so we didn’t listen it a lot in our house when I was growing up. But, when I found out about Winger about when I was in high school, my love for glam metal grew bigger since then. I annoy my parents from time to time by playing some glam metal or hair metal songs. 😛
Like I said above, Dokken’s “In My Dreams” is a typical glam metal song from the 80s. But, it is likable. I am more of a Winger fan girl, but Dokken’s music isn’t that bad. I also like how dramatic that music video can be with all that rain.
The Party – In My Dreams (1991)
The Party was a group former with five members (Albert Fields, Tiffini Hale, Chase Hampton, Deedee Magno Hall, and Damon Pampolina) from the late 80s/early 90s reboot of The Mickey Mouse Club. These five were in the show way before Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera joined. Many would recognized Deedee Magno Hall as she voices the character Pearl in Steven Universe. (BTW, I almost forgot but I have mentuioned about The Party before in this blog. It was last year with the song “Summer Vacation”.)
The group released the cover/remix album In the Meantime, In Between Time in the fall of 1991. Unbeknownst to the group and producers, their cover of “In My Dreams” would be their biggest hit, peaking at #34 on the Billboard 100 chart. Also, they got to perform on other networks like MTV.
The Party’s version of “In My Dreams” is a dance tune set at a higher tempo. What I like about this version is the little things: the instrumentation (especially during spoken monologue at the bridge and right before the final chorus) and the backing vocals done by the other members. I really enjoyed how they sang the “Ahh Ahh”s parts with a main melody and a harmonic melody. Finally, I really enjoy Deedee Magno Hall as main vocalist as she has a great voice and brings a different musical flavor to the song.
What Will It Be?
Now it is your turn to vote! Who will be the victor of the first-ever “Battle of the Songs”? Tell me in the comments below! Also, tell me why you choose a particular version! I can’t wait to hear what you guys think!

I’ve never even heard of this group! Ha!
Neither of the two?
I vote for The Party – In My Dreams. I like the classic retro vibe in it.
i thought they were both fun but i think i prefer the dance pop version, it’s more my style.
Thanks for your vote!
I’ll go with The Party here. It held my interest better.
Awesome choice!
I will go with the 2nd version from The Party as i am not much into the big hair bands from the 80’s that did the soft heavy metal. I think just about every type of heavy metal band like this did some video with rain in it.
Actually, I kinda like Dokken for this one. Nice battle.
Thanks!

Never heard of either one, but have to go with The Party on this one! It reminded me of Expose – Taking Me to the Point of No Return.
I think I’m going to have to vote for Dokken here. Good battle!

I mean, I’m a 90s teen so I have to go with The Party because you know… Haha!
I prefer the dance pop songs of the 90s. Regardless, these songs are still OK for me.
I liked In my dreams from The party more. 😊
I like the glam metal version! =) I always discover new music on your blog. Thanks!
I never listened to Dokken though I am very familiar with the name. The Party versions are both good, but I prefer the Dokken version better. I’m surprised I never bought any of their music back in the day because I listened to a lot–a whole lot–of music in this style. I still like hearing it!

Tossing It Out
I’ve never heard of both of these groups. But Party here got me more interested.
To be honest, I don’t really like these two. I prefer songs that are more pop-ish type.
I’ve never heard of these groups but their songs are quite amazing. I love it especially The Party!
Never heard of them but I can’t choose between the two.
I don’t follow this kind of music but I think you challenges are so interesting.
Haha. When I played, In My Dream, my husband started singing with it so I guess that’s my fave!
In my dreams!!!
Both versions are good but I’m kinda more like original Dokken version.
I shall vote for The Party Group . I know so less about these groups, very interesting post for a music lover like me.
I say The Party, but they both sound great.
These all sound pretty fun and upbeat!
i think im getting old, i don’t like loud/rock music anymore. lol..
I like the party version of the song. It has that old school disco vibe to it.
The pop version is more my style!

I don’t know any of the songs lol
All vintage music but I share, I also love 80/90 music!
I haven’t heard these songs yet. I know some of my guitarist friends who love metal songs. I generally prefer pop songs.
I’m a pop song fan!! My my favorite are 90s songs.
I would give my vote to The Party. I like upbeat tunes that can perk me up and uplift my spirits. Songs that make me tap my feet to the music is always a win for me.
I listened to both of these songs, and I’ll go for The Party. I do like them both though! I’ve always liked 80s music.
Once again you’ve introduced me to music i’ve never heard. Thanks for sharing 🙂
They all sound great but im loving the dance pop one!
So i had never heard of both songs, which is also great as I am finding out about new music. I think i prefer the dance pop one!
i actually have never heard either of these songs but i love learning new songs ha- i def like the pop dance one WOOHOO
Hey, thanks for reminding these songs. What a sweet memory. Will go for the party.
That is the easiest I have seen here. Glam metal version surely is way way better!
I have to admit I’ve not heard of these bands before! How bad is that?! I am going to have to look out some more music by them.
I like them both! But if I had to choose it would be the pop version. Such fun!
Being from the 90s I have to go with the Party haha these are great!
Dokken is the best for me.. Love it! 😍
NEITHER OF THE TWOOOOOOO!
It must feel so good to be done with your play. Take as much time as you can to recover.
Oh these are really throwback songs. So cool.
Holiii !!
What an interesting thing is your blog. I do not know any of the groups you mention, but it’s normal, because they probably did not even reach my country, and of course, I was not even born.
But watching the videos, I thought it was a curious music, either of the two groups.
Good day!!
The videos looks super awesome. The clips makes me remember the old songs from MTV before. I really enjoyed reading this post.
Oh wow, So many great singers to love. My first time to hear Dokken and it really amaze me.
Never heard of this song before but it sounds really great. And I am amazed how talented those singers are.
I never heard of either of these two before. Music means different things to different people and this would not be my type of music so I will let the best group win.
Ill go with the party version
Dance pop style- of course. Reason? Pops have classic appeal everyone likes.
Thanks for sharing some of these songs with us. Really sentimental to listen back to these songs and make me feel young again.
I tried to check both of them and I’ll go with Dokken. They are actually nice.
I like the Party version!
dokken
The party of my dreams is the winner!
Oh my goodness, a play would be so much fun. This was not an easy choice but I’d have to go with The Party – In My Dreams (1991).
This is a toughie! hmmm…but i think…the winner…issssss… The Party!!
Can’t listen to these songs right now but I’m interested. I’m saving them for later 😉
I remember the first song when I was a kid. I was so into hair metal bands at that time. 🙂
I choose The party version sounds cool I like it,
Funny, I’ve actually heard the song before, but had no idea who sang it! I’m not really a fan of rock music, so I prefer the lighter dance version sound.
I would say the party here but both of them sounds good and I will like to play in my car while driving
I love your nice playlist and prefer the party version more.
Music connects the world. I like party songs.
very informative & lovely sharing here, learnt some interesting facts & music knowledge, thanks for sharing this. cheers, siennylovesdrawing
I will go with party version. That makes me happy
These battles are so fun! This week was easy for me. My vote is The Party.
I know nothing of both bands other than they both look AMAZING! 🙂 Are you a big Eurovision fan btw? Me and my dad are huge fans! 💚
I have not heard of these bands before. They sound really nice. Will check them out.
I’m really enjoying these dream songs. I’m probably going to have them stuck in my dream soon lol!
Wow I’ve never heard of these groups or even about a battle of the songs before. You’ve introduced me to a whole new world. Thank you!
I really liked the original 80’s one, the party song felt more like the one for the gym
that group sound interesting
Am not familiar with these songs, but hey 80s and 90s songs are coming back!
This might be a hit with the remakes.
I am going to go with the dance pop version
I think you have a lot of experience with old songs, that is amazing.

I already love the song! Just because of the instrumentation at that spoken monologue too! It makes the song come out so deep.
